From the region for the region - and with a view at the world: Students deciding to study in Emden or Leer, study at a university with a personal atmosphere. At present, around 4,700 students are enrolled at the two locations. In addition to 24 bachelor's degree programs, there are also ten master's degree programs in the fields of technology, social work and health, economics as well as maritime and maritime sciences. The study programs are partly interdisciplinary and internationally oriented. It is also possible to study in a dual system, i.e. in connection with professional practice in a company.

The university is committed to technological, economic and social development in the northwest. Thus, it gives impulse to the educational region of East Frisia and promotes scientific networks. At the same time, the region is represented in the education and research sector at home and abroad.

The university also aims to expand interdisciplinary and international cooperation. This applies to both teaching and research. It also contributes to sustainable development. On the one hand, there are many study topics, research areas and projects in the area of sustainable technologies, but also in terms of social responsibility. Students can also get involved in sustainability and acquire a so-called sustainability certificate. Since December 2016, the University carries the title „Fairtrade University “.
